The Confederation of African Football(CAF) headed by Dr. Ahmad Ahmad on Tuesday, 30 June 2020 decided on all CAF related competitions amidst the outbreak of Corona Virus pandemic.
Prior to today’s meeting, the future of Africa’s football competitions were in limbo following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic that halted sports competitions across the continent.
The decision body of African Football met to discuss how to resume their competitions in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The meeting which was held via online conference had the Africa Cup of Nations, AWCON, CHAN, CAF Champions League, CAF Cup semi final 1 and new competition Women’s Champions League in 2021 discussed.
After hours of holding the meeting, the Federation took a bold step to postpone the African Cup of Nations which was supposed to be played next to 2022.
The following are the outcome of the meeting;
AFCON postponed to Jan 2022
CHAN postponed to Jan 2021
CAF Cup Semi Final one match in Morocco= final in Morocco
African Champions League Semi Final single match=final in Cameroon
Cancellation of the edition of the AWCON 2020
New competition Women’s Champions League in 2021
The Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) would have been held in April in Cameroon.
