Government support is very necessary at this moment – Togbe Afede XIV calls on Government
Board chairman of Ghana Premier League giants Hearts of Oak SC, Togbe Afede XIV has called on the Government to rescue the clubs with a stimulus package in this difficult times.
Amidst Corona Virus pandemic, clubs have petitioned the Government through the GFA on several occasions to come to support them financially to avoid more damage.
The step by the Ghana Football Association has warranted the Council of State members to wade into the discussion.
“In terms of government support, it’s necessary. All over the world, governments have stepped in to support. What we’re going through today, is not only limited to Ghana,”
“The havoc it has done to this world is what we see today in Ghana. And it’s not only the football that is suffering, but all other sectors are also suffering.
“If people in America need a bailout, people in America need a bailout, how much more those of us here?
“I think that football is such an important sector and government needs to step in. It’s sad that the contribution of football to our economy is not well-appreciated,” he told GTVSports+.
The world governing body, FIFA is set to give the Ghana Football Association with a relief fund. With the money yet to be disbursed to the FA, the association says the man was meant for other purposes much to their disappointment.
Due to the hardship, clubs are facing Administrators have had to negotiate with their players, coaches, technical staff, and auxiliary staff over salary cuts.
